My apologies, dear, for all my mistakes T he local library was small and quaint, with rows upon rows of books crammed into the tiny building. Roderich enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the musty scent of old books. The air was thick with dust particles that flew off the pages as you turned them. Libraries were becoming fewer and fewer these days, with the amount of technology out there to read on, who wanted books anymore? However, while others may believe books are a thing of the past, Roderich adores libraries, they have a kind of atmosphere you can’t get anywhere else. Currently he was tucked deep within the heart of the labyrinth of books, sitting on a old wooden stool; silently reading. Roderich looked up when the librarian approached him, she was a petite woman, around his age, which he deemed could possibly be a few years older than him, with small features and large glasses that she would often have to push back up her nose after they had slipped down, much like Roderich would do as a child. “Roderich,” Abigail addressed him by his first name, He came here often enough to know her quite well. Her name meant beauty and wisdom but Roderich found her neither beautiful nor wise - she was, in fact, rather plain and timid. “I need you to leave. I work alone today and I need to close for lunch.” She told the Roderich quite rudely, that exceeded her normal voice volume. Perhaps it was her being a librarian for so long that caused her to be so quiet, or perhaps she was just an incredibly reserved human being. But at this moment, Roderich added rude to the woman’s list of traits. Roderich stood from his seat on the rickety wooden stool and replaced his book to its dusty shelf before brushing down his trousers to which some of the fine powder had stuck and turning towards the door. He pulled his jacket over his shoulders and wrapped his scarf around his neck before braving the cool weather outside. He just decided to walk, until his stomach grumbled. Maybe lunch wasn’t that bad of an idea. Maybe some coffee first though, Abigail was dreadfully slow in anything she did. He constantly took his time walking through the streets of Archadia, even though it was normally colder than Roderich could stand. It reminded him of that Christmas. The Christmas that he was left alone yet again. He reached beneath his jacket to find the familiar silver necklace. He just rolled it in his fingers before he glanced to the side, finding the place he had wanted to be. He finally found a small coffee shop, and greeted the woman at the counter with a smile before asking and paying for his beverage. Maybe in a little while, he would order some actual food. When the beverage finally came out, Roderich smiled. But, as luck works out for Roderich, he accidentally knocked into someone, spilling his drink all over their shoes. Oh just absolutely lovely Roderich, you’ve done it now. ”I’m dreadfully sorry!”✣ tags: anyone, i don't really have anyone in mind word count: 551 notes: it's open and i was bored so, have an awkward, flustered Austrian please. by worldie for steph

Come little children, I'll take thee away,
Into a land of enchantment... 811 words Some hot chocolate would be great, too <3
Also Gil, you get coffee spilled on you cause if it was Nico, it'd be on his head... And that's no good. XD; It certainly had been a long week.
Well, maybe not as long as his brother felt it be, but it was still filled with plenty of rushing events that it felt long enough for Nico as well. It took a while for him to get used to his new name, a good two or three days, in fact. Being called Nico or Nickolaus instead of Eloy still gave him a bit of a delay to recognize that the person calling was trying to get his attention, but was slowly growing on him as well.
He was also getting used to his new daily routines; bath time was at night instead of the morning quick showers, food was not something that would just always come straight out of a microwave, and bedtime stories was a brand new thing that was imported into his life (and honestly, it was the best thing to ever happen to him). He got to pick his own clothes (as silly as many of the combinations were), decide what color his toothbrush was going to be, and could choose between a few options what he wanted for his daily snacks that came around at 3pm sharp. Desserts, as limited as they were, were also introduced to Nico, and he also learnt that when it was snowing, he couldn’t just rush outside in his pajamas without a jacket (having been sheltered in the house when it was such weather back at home).
With as many improvements Nickolaus had gain in life in a span of one week, there were also quite a few things he missed having back at home. His parents, of course, being a big one. Despite having been practically tossed away by his own mother and father, Nickolaus couldn’t understand why he was flown out to this different country with this new big brother of his. Another one was his books back at home, as big as his parents were to him, Nico also adored all the books he read on his free time. When Gilbert took him from the house in what seemed like a blurred rush, the idea of taking the books with him slipped the child’s mind, and he regretted it so much at this point.
Sure, Gilbert seemed to catch on the boy’s love of books and would read a few before bed that he bought at a nearby bookstore, but this child had high demands. He read all the time, so a wide selection was needed, and that was just expensive to get together. So instead, when Nickolaus was told he would be taken to the local library instead, the toddler couldn’t contain his excitement. He woke up several times the night before, repeatedly asking if they were still going, and going back to sleep once told they were.
And the day finally came. After getting dressed, taking care of morning activities and bounding out the house in a hurry, Nickolaus now found himself in front of the library, the doors locked and a sign that spelled out ‘closed’ hanging from inside for the outsiders to see. Clutching at his own pants, Nico’s brows were furrowed, a hint of clear disappointment showing in his blue irises. He testingly reached up to try to open the door, only to find it not budging one bit, and gave an almost silent whimper.
He turned a bit to glance up at Gilbert, tears filling his eyes. He bit his lower lip to try to keep himself from bawling at spot (he was a big boy, after all, and that was just embarrassing), and sniffled several times as well. Only once did he bring his arm up to wipe his own tears off his rosey cheeks did he finally see a blurred sign, making him blink and wipe them once more to get a much clearer vision.
The sign in front of a coffee shop, showing a picture of two colorful donuts and the simple word, ‘NEW!’ written under it. Nickolaus found his eyes widen before he sniffled once more and pointed to the sign in silence, glancing up to Gil, tears still remaining in his wet hues. They could wait in there until the library opened…? They had donuts, right…? He could eat that; he was hungry from not eating too much of his breakfast (he was too excited for the library to focus on it), so it worked, right…?
So without really waiting for an answer, the boy dashed off once more, figuring Gilbert would follow close behind. He entered the store and without paying much attention, snaking his way around the man who was in line in front of them, before he heard a small crash and the stranger apologize to his brother. He blinked and glanced up, before stepping to his brother’s side to check at the shoes in silence. Oops.
