I'm an Animal
I wish I could give you my love and my soul,
but inside my chest there is nobody home.
but inside my chest there is nobody home.
The weather outside was cold the past few days, however she refused to remain indoors for even a moment longer. Quite frankly it was boring, being inside when she could wander the streets and explore the recent shop openings. Such a big city with so many opportunities - why waste a day such as this by staying inside? This venture into the outside world, though a break from secluding herself, wasn't as entertaining as she'd been hoping. Nor was it a momentary break from work. No, instead it was another unexplained part of an otherwise well-informed job. And while she could do without this particular assignment, Natalya was well aware of the position declining would put her in. Risking what little freedom she had here wasn't an option, going back to that damn prison cell wasn't an option either. She'd do whatever it took to avoid that scenario, even if it meant putting up with the company of such a detestable creature.
Mutants.
Uugh, the very idea made her stomach turn.
She'd be lying if she said there wasn't a bit of sympathy towards them. It's not like they asked for this life; to be thrown into this world and forced to live their lives in fear of captivity or what tomorrow would bring. Yet as sympathetic as she felt, there was another, stronger, side that personally didn't care. Whether they asked for this or not, this was the hand life dealt. If they didn't like it, well, the exit door was wherever they wished. Most, if not all, were abominations, monsters walking around in human skin. If they didn't want to live their lives in fear then they shouldn't try to blend themselves in everyday life as a normal human being, they shouldn't have these strange powers which could seriously wound or kill a person...they simply shouldn't have been born in the first place. It was a harsh statement, cruel even, but it's what Natalya had been taught. So far, none of the mutants had proved her wrong.
Pity.
As entertaining as it was to keep to herself during the short drive, Natalya was beginning to find it a daunting task when one of the many "abominations" sat to her immediate right. After all, today was the day. Though he wasn't her mutant, the task of getting him chipped somehow fell on her shoulders. Thus her earlier 'bitching' about this being one of the many things she hadn't signed up for when taking this job, but again, she didn't have much of a choice. Nor did the male next to her.
Mihai Eliade. Public enemy number one.
Heh, more like the government's bitch.
Neither had so much as uttered a word since first stepping into the car, honestly she didn't see the point of engaging in simple conversations with him. Aside from the files and documents she'd read on him Natalya knew next to nothing about him, and she wasn't about to ask twenty questions in the hopes of gaining at least one answer. She wanted a conversation, but didn't feel it worth the energy. What a predicament.
So she continued driving, keeping cerulean optics on the road and occasionally broke contact to search for the sign that would release her from this awkward drive. Thankfully, it didn't take long. There weren't a lot of signs in Archadia as it wasn't a large city, so spotting Gupta's sign was easier than she'd thought it'd be. Pulling into the driveway, parking in what she deemed an ideal spot and putting the car in park, the Belarusian female leaned back against her seat to inspect the store with a raised brow. So this was the infamous pet shop? Hmm, perhaps she'd come give it a better look when she wasn't working.
"Are you ready?" The words fell from her mouth, breaking the deadly silence for the first time since stepping into the car.
