it's a revolution Word count: 565 Notes: This took forever, I'm sorry. orz "Yeah, definitely," Alfred said with a slight smile. "We can keep in touch and when you're ready to move in you can send me a message or something and I'll come drop Churro off. My apartment's pretty lenient on pets and I live on the top floor so I won't really be disturbing anyone. Besides, cats are pretty decent at taking care of themselves, right?" He really hoped so. They couldn't be worse than dogs, who craved attention all the time (not that Alfred minded giving it). Cats might be a bit more sinister and evil than dogs were, but Churro was cute enough and looked plenty sweet. Alfred laughed a little when Antonio mentioned food. "Well I might just take you up on that offer. Though you might end up regretting it," he added. "I've got a really big stomach and I'm sure you're a pretty good cook."Antonio smiled as he nodded at the woman at the register, but when Churro mewed, Alfred saw Antonio's face twitch ever so slightly. He played it well though, using the excuse Alfred had given him about the ringtone. Antonio shrugged, talking easily as if it had been well-practiced. Of course though, they couldn't keep up the façade after Churro meowed again. Alfred watched as Antonio's shoulder dropped as he gave an almost resigned smile towards the woman. "Cat's out of the sack, huh?" Antonio began before Alfred could intervene, unzipping his jacket as he did so and lifting Churro out. The cat seemed confused by where they were but wholly unimpressed. "I don't suppose Alien is a better excuse?" A small laugh accompanying his words put a suppressed smile onto the woman's face. Alfred felt a little like a child caught stealing candy (a feeling he was really all too well acquainted with). Antonio was a smooth talker, whether because he was a sales rep or just good at approaching people (or both?) Alfred wasn't sure. Really, Alfred was almost impressed with how easily Antonio explained the situation to the woman. Antonio talked cheerfully even as he was apologizing for bringing the cat in. The frown as he talked about rescuing Churro was almost exaggerated, but it seemed to work for Antonio. Alfred would have pinned him either as an amazingly good liar or simply someone who just was that way. He suspected the latter in this case. The woman bit her lip before smiling softly. "No, I suppose it wouldn't be right," she relented. She reached out cautiously and petted Churro on the head. The striped cat wiggled a little, meowing once again and the smile on the woman's face widened. "I love cats," she confessed. "They're really just kinda adorable, don't you think?" She glanced around quickly before taking her hand away. "You guys are good to go. Technically you've already paid so it isn't really my place to say anything." She gave a friendly wink. "Just don't tell my manager, alright?" Alfred grinned, a little relieved. "No worries, ma'am.""Be sure to leave the kitten at home next time though," the woman noted. "Hopefully you find a good one for him." Alfred clapped his hand on Antonio's shoulder. "I'm sure this guy will have fun with him," Alfred said smiling. He picked up everything they'd bought and gave a cheerful goodbye to the woman before the two of them walked out the store. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

The innocent, hopeful smile of a child trying to smooth talk their way out of punishment only after they’ve been caught. This was the best way to describe the expression on Antonio Carriedo’s face as he spoke to the cashier at the store, revealing an illicit cute and fluffy animal from his coat. And when said woman softened a little, stroked the kitten and admitted to quite liking cats herself? The smile only broadened, almost blinding. Honesty and a sense of humor, delivered with a smile and a laugh, really did do the trick rather well huh? “ Thank you so much,” Antonio said, bowing his head a little in appreciation and even lowering the kitten in his hands as if to mimic his own actions. She didn’t have to be so nice and understanding about the situation, he really didn’t. Just as easily she could have gotten upset about ‘a clear disregard of the rules, the welfare of others’ and made the whole situation take a very bad turn. Instead she chose to be kind. Between this and his meeting Alfred, Antonio was really beginning to get a good feeling for the city of Archadia. Two people out of many may have been a bit too little to judge from, but he’d always been the optimistic sort. As they left the store Antonio was all smiles. “ Well that was lucky, huh?” He laughed, thumb rubbing softly along the top of Churro’s head before he gently zipped him back up in his jacket against the cold. “ If everyone’s that nice I’ll definitely have to come back to this store often.” Hopefully where he ended up living would be close by so he could easily make it his usual stop for groceries and the like. Although he was no stranger to trekking a little further than needed when he really liked a business and the people. But there was someone else he had to be grateful for already, huh? He smiled at Alfred now. “ I really wanna thank you for offering to take him. I promise I’ll make quick work of finding a place so you won’t be troubled long. And I’ll be more than happy to cook you a couple of meals as thanks.” When he grinned then it pulled a little at his eyes as well. It was, yet again, something more befitting someone far younger. “ It may have taken an unexpected turn, or five,” he laughed. “ But I’m really glad I met you. Today was fun. I was planning to explore a little and get a feel for some of the city, but it’s always way better with someone else.” As usual he may have been jumping to conclusions in being so thankful for meeting someone after only a day of knowing them. Some might say he was too trusting and didn’t know a thing about Alfred. But really, how could someone who showed a complete stranger around town, offered to take care of an animal for them for an undetermined amount of time be that bad? made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 560 Notes: This took so long, I'm sorry. orz Antonio beamed at the woman before they exited the store, walking out into the brisk, open air. He chattered away easily as he put Churro back into his jacket and zipped the cat up so he wouldn't be cold. It was impossible not to be cheery around Antonio and really, it had only been a kitten. A 'crime' perhaps but the sort that little kids would play. And it gave Alfred a sense of giddiness. Different from the rush he experienced during cons, but still. It was similarly addicting. "Ah, yeah, don't worry about it!" Alfred grinned in response when Antonio told him he'd find some place to stay as soon as possible. "Cats aren't that difficult to take care of, I'm pretty sure, and Churro's been pretty good so far. And..." Alfred's grin only widened. "I'll be happy to take you on that offer at some point. I'd cook for you in return, but all I'd be able to make for you would be burgers." Alfred laughed a litte. It wasn't that he couldn't cook...but it was probably best to let Antonio handle the kitchen. "Definitely." Alfred nodded. "Exploring is fun, but so much better with someone else. I had loads of fun too. And what's life without a little adventure? It'd be boring if things just went too smoothly." Boring and really, rather suspicious. Change was just natural, something you took with life like the British took sugar with tea. It was inevitable. If you went through life without change, you were probably doing something wrong. Alfred leaned back, looking at the bright blue sky and then to Antonio with a smile as they continued walking in the direction they had originally come from. "Let's head to wherever you're staying for now, hotel or something, and then I'll take Churro from you. Should probably get down your number or something so I can call you later and we can find a time to meet so that I can get Churro to you."Although Alfred wasn't the sort to quickly define people as 'friends' anymore, he couldn't help but feel as if this familiar rhythm with Antonio that they both seemed to have easily settled into could only be defined as that. Perhaps they were similar (which could, depending on one's perspective, be either a good or bad thing) and that was why they got along so well. Either way, it was an afternoon that Alfred wouldn't have spent any other way. Really for the first time since he'd met Antonio, Alfred wondered about how he felt about mutants. His instincts told him that Antonio would not care for the mutant trade that Archadia boasted. He was kind and easy to talk to...but who knew? Alfred would have liked to believe that everyone who was kind would be morally against it...but that wasn't the case. It wasn't so clean cut. He wanted to know, because Alfred didn't think he could be friends with someone who supported what was essentially slavery, but at the same time, Alfred found himself unbelievably reluctant to bring it up. It had been such a nice afternoon. Why would he want to damper it? ...Maybe he'd ask in the future, when he saw Antonio again. Sneak it in there subtly. Antonio seemed like the type that wouldn't pry too much. Maybe. Hopefully. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

If Antonio wasn’t already counting his blessings on this day in Archadia, he was now. Part of it could definitely be chalked up simply to Alfred’s character. Him saying that life would not be interesting if there was no adventure to be had. Honestly, in a way, it reminded him a bit of the time he had spent with his friend Gilbert growing up. There was a wonder as to why he did not think of his siblings and cousins and their antics, and that may be answered with the fact that the kind of trouble he got up to with them was of the different sort than with Gilbert. Although he was fairly certain he could not count sneaking a kitten into a grocery store was exactly ‘trouble.’ Perhaps the whole tree climbing was a bit more accurate… He snorted a little at the mere thought of he, Gilbert, and Alfred ever hanging out together and, heaven forbid, alcohol becoming involved. With a course of action for Churro was brought up, Antonio nodded. “ Sounds good to me. I’m pretty sure we’re close – the hotel is right in town.” As he liked it normally. When it came to long term stays Antonio tended to prefer to be a bit out of the way, even rural. Maybe because it reminded him of his home in Spain, away from the city and among the orchards. When he was new to a place and only staying in a hotel or the like, though, he preferred to be right in the middle of things. It made it easier to get the feel for an area – being within sight and hearing of the action. Naturally, though, as he was in Archadia as a representative of the Carriedo group rather than his usual wanderings, Antonio had been put up in a reasonably nice business hotel. Normally he might prefer something small, hopefully even family run since that was more fun anyway. But alas. This was what happened when he was traveling for business. The only real reason he cared at that moment was that he was with Alfred – and Churro. He nodded towards the doors, “ would you like to go in? Or do you need to get on home?” He asked. On one hand it was considered more polite to invite a guest in – especially on a day as cold as this, even if it would only be for a moment. Offer them a warm beverage of you could. However, he had kept Alfred to himself all day as it was. He might have other things he needed to do… And, he only thought of later, maybe Alfred wouldn’t be up for yet another game of hide-a-cat, this time from hotel employees. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 627 Notes: ONLY TOOK ME FOUR MONTHS Alfred followed Antonio through Archadia easily. He had never really gotten too well acquainted with the hotels in the area...other than a con he'd once pulled as a waiter, that is. That was a different hotel though. Not that anyone was likely to remember some random waiter from over a year ago. That had been an interesting con. He'd learned quite a bit as well. Alfred picked up little bits of everything from each of his cons. He had to fit the job description after all, and for the hotel con Alfred had spent some time learning how to pour an expensive glass of wine to absolute perfection. He wouldn't have minded spending more time on cons and really establishing himself, but he rarely did. It would have been too easy to get attached and distracted. Not to mention he didn't particularly want to be remembered. Archadia may have been a large city, but since Alfred was limited to the city, he would rather keep a low cover. The hotel that Antonio led Alfred to was nice. A business hotel, Alfred thought, noting the many briefcases that exited and entered the lobby. It was odd to think of Antonio as a professional businessman. Alfred had always thought businessmen to be...well, honestly somewhat dull. Very concerned with money and their next appointments and being punctual. Antonio really didn't seem like a businessman. Certainly, Alfred could sense he could be a charismatic salesman. But beyond that... There was no stiffness to Antonio. He seemed so genuine, so likable. What exactly did Antonio do? Alfred recalled that he was a representative of some wine and food company...well he supposed that would make sense. Alfred had trouble imagining Antonio sitting for hours at a business meeting in a suit, but perhaps that was simply because Alfred hadn't gotten to know Antonio in that sort of setting. Alfred frowned a little as a sudden thought occurred to him. He'd been thinking of the hotel con and Antonio's career and for a brief moment, the thought of using this connection with Antonio arose in his mind. Alfred shook that away quickly. Antonio was a good man and Alfred had no desire to jeopardize his position in any way or form. Besides, it wasn't like he needed the money right now. Antonio seemed kind and good and Alfred had no inclination to take advantage of him. He liked getting to know Antonio on this level, without any strings attached. It felt free, pure almost. No, Alfred was not about to involve the man in any of his 'work.' It was refreshing to have someone that Alfred did not have to consider in that manner. Someone who was not connected to a con or to the Freedom Fighters, someone who simply took Alfred at face value. Alfred blinked as Antonio asked if he wanted to go into the hotel. He'd certainly enjoyed hanging out with the Spaniard. Much more than he'd intended to, to say the least. Antonio felt rather like a friend now, though Alfred was hesitant to classify their relationship as such. Friendly acquaintances, perhaps? At any rate, Alfred thought, it was rather nice to have someone like that. Still, they had only just met after all, and Antonio probably had places to be and people to see as he was just moving into the city. So Alfred smiled and shook his head. "Thanks, but I think it's best if I started heading back. I'm sure you've got a load of work to get done as well as you've just moved here. Here, I'll take Churro and the supplies from you and we can exchange numbers so you can pick him up whenever you find a good place to settle."i suppose by Worldie for Leia

It was no lie that Antonio had things to do. He did have a few calls he had needed to make by the day’s end, closer to the end thus his ease in spending most of the day out and about. He also would need as early a start as he could get on his home finding mission now that he was putting someone out by taking his time. Two someone’s – by counting both Alfred and Churro. In this regard Alfred was showing ever more polite thoughtfulness for Antonio. It was only right that he respond quickly and allow the man to get home. Both to get out of the cold and to set up all of his purchases and single find. “ Of course,” he smiled, unzipping his coat enough to produce the ball of fur once more. The warmth and long day had apparently sent him right off to sleep by the way that he blinked tiredly at the shift in atmosphere from a warm close body to being passed on in the cold. “ It’s a very rude way to be woke up, I know. Lo siento” he apologized to the small kitten with one last thumb stroke along his head. Once Alfred had ahold of Churro Antonio reached back into his coat, this time producing a business card and pen. With ease he scribbled a number on the back and slipped it into the cat supplies. “ There’s my personal cell number and email. You can just shoot me a message when you get home so I can save your info.” Most anyone else may have wondered at what kind of home Alfred’s was before they let go of their pet, even a new one. But from what little Alfred had spoken of on his apartment, plus how much Antonio already trusted the man, there was little reason for Antonio to even think on that now. Honestly he did trust Alfred already. And who wouldn’t after a day like that? He’d not only paid for his food and stuff for this new pet, but he’d also bodily caught Antonio with little regard for himself. Anyone who did that so automatically was worthy of trust. “ Again, thank you so much Alfred. I really appreciate this. It seems like it was a stroke of luck that our orders got mixed up, as odd as this is to say,” with another one of his laughs. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 410 Notes: Finally replied! Alfred couldn't help but smile as Antonio took the tiny ball of fur out of his jacket, stroking it softly and apologizing for waking it up. The Spaniard handed off the kitten to Alfred, who quickly tucked the cat half into his own jacket. Churro snuggled in easily, clearly relieved to be back in a warm environment and ready to go back to sleep. "I'll make sure to call you when I get the chance," Alfred said as Antonio dropped his business card into the bag of supplies. "And we can sort all the rest once that's done." Who knew? Maybe they could meet up again beyond simply exchanging a cat. Alfred had to mentally chastise himself. Even though he and Antonio had just spent a whole afternoon exploring the city together, that didn't mean they were friends. Alfred wasn't in a profession where forming friends was part of his agenda after all. Though...it wasn't that big of a deal, right? No one said that Alfred couldn't occasionally have someone to grab coffee with. Spending time with Antonio had been so refreshing. Alfred hadn't realized how much he missed just talking with other people, without any ulterior motives. It wasn't like talking to Antonio was going to kill him, right? Maybe...maybe. Alfred would just have to keep everything else about his life separate and secret. But he was sure he could figure something out. "You're welcome," Alfred said with a grin. "I don't mind at all...cats aren't too difficult to take care of. At least I don't think so." Alfred still preferred dogs and how they were always so eager and excitable, but cats could serve as good companionship for now. Perhaps he should get himself a pet to keep him company. It would fill the empty days when Alfred got bored of himself. "And yeah, it really was! I had a great time, and hopefully you'll settle in soon so that I can bring Churro back to his new home. We'll see how it goes."He took the supplies from Antonio and somehow, despite the cat and the bag, managed a small wave. "I'll see you later then! Welcome to the city!"With that, Alfred left with a cat in his jacket and supplies in his hand. Now, to set up a place in his apartment for Churro. To imagine he'd just left his apartment to go have a decently cooked meal. This day was just full of surprises. i suppose by Worldie for Leia
