Antonio laughed. “ Death by sweets? That doesn’t sound like too bad of a way to go.” Maybe not the most beautiful or meaningful, but definitely tasty. Some of these Russian treats, churros, gelato… a mental list of all of his favorite sweets was already forming and ever lengthening itself in his mind. He’d had his fair share of sweets and desserts in his travels, had the ones he had gone out of his way to find recipes for or always have some kind of dealer of it where ever he went. Honestly if it weren’t for his tendency for walking Antonio would be a lot fatter than he was due to his love for food and treats. “ Hmmm,” Antonio hummed out loud in thought. Where to go next? As it was he was surprised at all that he had learned already thanks to Alfred. Church, park, shops, cafes, restaurants. If it weren’t for having just eaten a full meal and their dessert he would be all up for checking out the two latter of that list. To him, some of the best places to try first in a town were the restaurants. And not just based on his earlier statement about local food being your first stop at any new place. As had been proven by his meeting Alfred and going out like this, restaurants and cafes were some of the best places to network. Whether it meant overhearing conversations that related to the area, ending up seated with a local, or asking the waitress, there were always a fair enough amount of people to get a feel for wherever you were. There are always odd people out in cities and towns of course. And you definitely didn’t get everyone in one place, especially with his tastes. Stopping at a little café wouldn’t let you see some of the upper class of a town, or even people that just preferred another place to have their coffee. But he still held strong to his belief about them being a perfect little microcosm representation as well as a place to learn. Although… hm. He looked up, hand to his chin. “ The only thing I can think of that I haven’t seen yet is a grocery or some place with food venders. Bakeries are about all. For when I do have a kitchen and can cook meals. ” He stopped, laughed. “ Of course, we may just end up finding those sorts of places wandering around like you said. And that would help with burning off our food so I can give another place a try later.” He grinned. Yes, good planning. Keep walking and stay out long enough so he could eat out again. it's a revolution Word count: 543 " Sounds good," Alfred said cheerfully. He pushed the door of the shop outwards. A blast of cold wind hit him and Alfred shivered involuntarily. The pastry shop was always so warm and cozy that Alfred forgot about the blasted iciness of Russian winters. At least it wasn't snowing today. Alfred loved snow, but even he could have enough of it. There was plenty of snow on the ground already. Alfred and Antonio strolled through the town. Alfred wondered exactly where they should go next. Antonio was interested in a grocery shop or food vendors. There was a couple, but they were outside of the shopping district itself. Alfred supposed that they could drop by, but they were all rather large grocery shops. Since Antonio had just moved there, he'd probably prefer to do his own grocery shopping by himself. No reason for Alfred to tag along, though he could probably point it out to Antonio if they saw it. Antonio didn't seem to be the type that was particularly interested in clothes and Alfred wouldn't have directed him towards a shop either. There was nothing interesting going on in town at the moment and Alfred didn't really want to be seen at some specialized event. More important people might consider visiting and Alfred didn't really want to risk being spotted. Subconsciously, Alfred scooped a little snow off a nearby bench and began making himself a snowball. He wasn't going to start a snowball fight with Antonio (even Alfred wasn't stupid enough to try that with someone he'd just met), but it kept his hands occupied. Alfred really couldn't stand not having anything to do for a long time, especially while he was thinking of where they could possibly head next. Right now they were walking in the direction of the grocery store, but... ...Oh, he should probably tell Antonio that. " We're heading towards the grocery store," Alfred explained. " It's a little out of ways, but you can just about see it right—" There was a sound from the trees and Alfred paused, glancing up. Most people would never have noticed the slight disturbance, but Alfred was particularly attentive about noises. It sounded too small for it to be anything even mildly dangerous, but you never knew. Alfred stopped, snowball in hand. What could it be? It couldn't be a person. The branches were bare in the winter and there would be nowhere to hide. Alfred's brow furrowed. Had he made a mistake? "Mew." Alfred's eyes widened as a little as he spotted a patch of black and white make its way out of the branches, looking around, unsure of its surroundings. It was a kitten, not very old either. With black stripes, it looked unbelievably innocent. Its green eyes looked around hesitantly and it mewed again. Its claws clung onto the branch it was on. How had it even gotten up there? Alfred could understand why a cat would want to climb a tree in the summer, but in winter? The cat was so young...it must be nearly starving and freezing in this weather. " Hey, Antonio," Alfred said, his eyes still concentrated on the kitten, " wait up." He pointed upwards at the tree. " Don't you think we should give it a hand?" i suppose by Worldie for Leia

The two walked in silence for a short time. Antonio assumed they would find something to do, whether it be planned or not, so he didn’t feel a particular need to ask where they were headed. You could find just about anything to fill your time in a city like this. Especially when one was a newcomer and the other hadn’t explored it entirely yet. Some odd little shop that looked interesting enough, or that was having a sale. Street performances. Although… he did wonder if those happened in Russia in the winter. Might be a bit hard. But, you never know. When Alfred began to speak, mentioning a grocery store, only to pause Antonio turned back to look at him. The blond had stopped walking. “ Hm?” In curious question. Why was he looking up? Speaking again, Alfred directed his eyes upward. And at first, Antonio hadn’t noticed anything in particular either. Just as he was about to confusedly ask what he was supposed to be giving a hand to he caught sight of it. Among the branches was a small black and white form, clinging tight and cautious to a limb of the tree. “ How in the world?” He said, amazed. There was always the typical cat stuck in a tree scene but… in winter? And a kitten so small? As far as he’d heard it was usually older, full grown cats in the warmer months. Attempting to cool themselves in the shade and higher setting so as to enjoy what breeze there was. Or, to escape some threat like a dog. But in this kind of weather there couldn’t be much the kitten would need to run from except perhaps a person. Most dogs would try and find shelter… and most cats. How would a kitten this young be able to survive, unless it had been separated from its mother, or slipped out from its home? With his eyes still turned up Antonio walked back to where Alfred stood beneath the tree, himself advancing to the trunk of it to try and ascertain the full scope of the situation. Fortunately the kitten hadn’t gotten too high yet, to the thinner branches that were liable to break even under its tiny weight. But it was still fairly high up… and honestly he wasn’t sure how long it would last whether it went higher or not. Finally taking his eyes off of the cat, he brushed at the light powdered layer of snow on the tree. The bark wasn’t smooth, fortunately enough. It had bark to it. But that wasn’t much help when it was under snow, made wet and even icy. What foothold to be gained could very easily be lost in those kinds of conditions. But now that they’d noticed it, there was no way they could walk away. Not Antonio at least, and by his words it seemed Alfred was the same. The Spaniard stepped back, looking up again. Alright, it hadn’t moved yet. “ I can climb up and pass ‘em down to you, if we work this right. Good thing it’s a bit of an older tree and kind of thick.” He hadn’t the slightest idea what they would have done otherwise, or if it were more of a type of fir without any climbable branches. Try and borrow a ladder from someone, he supposed? One of his over jackets was removed and the tops of his mittens pinned back. Both so he wasn’t quite as top heavy, and he could get more of a hold. Antonio had certainly climbed his fair share of trees in his day, energetic and adventurous as he always had been. However those were never trees with snow and ice. Nor had he ever done so to rescue a stranded animal, more to just, you know, climb a tree. Some childish need to do something deemed somewhat dangerous. But it was better than no experience whatsoever, right? Right. It took two slides of the toe of his shoe before Antonio was able to get enough of a hold to hoist himself up, one hand gripping the lowest branch. Hey, it wasn’t that big of a tree. Just getting himself sitting on the thick lower limb made him quite a bit closer to the kitten than he had originally though. Plus in that regard. But not quite within arms length. “ I always wondered if this only happened in movies. But well, guess we have our answer, huh?” He laughed, testing another branch with some small tugs of his hand before he felt safe enough to climb further. It was on that one that he could reach above his head and touch the animal, although he paused before he did so. “ Hey there,” of a soft voice. Antonio smiled gently at the ever frightened kitten. “ How’d you get yourself in this mess anyway, huh? Running away from something scary? I wouldn’t blame you there.” In such situations cats could become ever more tense, locking into whatever they were standing on with a vice grip and not trusting strangers. Antonio had definitely interacted with enough strays and even house cats to know that much. A hand stroked the kittens back of bristled fur, gentle and soothing as possible. Either it wasn’t cautious enough to hiss, or was too frightened. Either way, he wasn’t sure how long he would be able to stay up where he was. “ We really need to get you down, little one. It would be an even sadder place without someone as cute as you in it.” At that, with a little bit of work, he was able to gently pull the small paws off of the branch enough to curl the kitten down into his side. He paused for a moment like that, cooing to it and stroking its head. They weren’t out of the woods yet, but he couldn’t not comfort the poor terrified animal. “ There we go, that’s good.” Then he looked down, called a little louder, “ alright, coming down!” made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 745 Notes: How were they going to get the cat down? The tree was slippery from being layered in ice and snow. Climbing would be dangerous, but was there any other choice? Alfred figured there would be someone around here with a ladder, but... " I can climb up and pass ‘em down to you, if we work this right. Good thing it’s a bit of an older tree and kind of thick." What? Alfred shot a look at Antonio. Was he serious? This man was crazy! Okay, sure, Alfred would've done it, but Antonio? The man was a salesman. Alfred had gotten to know Antonio, but he really hadn't thought... " Whoa, dude!" Alfred said as Antonio took off one of his jackets and began to climb. Alfred wanted to stop him, but then what? Antonio probably wouldn't let Alfred climb either. And he had to be here on the ground in case Antonio fell or to take the cat from Antonio if he reached it. Alfred watched with bated breath as the man began to climb. “ I always wondered if this only happened in movies. But well, guess we have our answer, huh?” Antonio laughed and somehow, Alfred joined in. He was a bit worried, with the ice and everything, but Antonio seemed to be handling himself fine. Had he climbed trees before? It certainly seemed like it. That was better than nothing, right? He should've climbed the tree. Even if he fell, Alfred would be fine. He'd been through worse. Antonio had just gotten here. Plus Alfred actually liked Antonio. Alfred watched as Antonio climbed a little further before reaching the kitty. From his point of view, he couldn't be completely sure of what was happening, but Antonio seemed to have the situation under control. Alfred circled over to where Antonio was. The man was talking to the cat now, soothing it as he petted its fur. Alfred smiled a little. Antonio was exactly the sort of person that Alfred liked. This only seemed to further enforce that idea into his mind. Alfred watched as Antonio slowly managed to get the kitten down from the branch, tucking it to his side. He stroked the animal and Alfred felt relief. Antonio was fine and so was the kitten. Everything was going smoothly. Everything would be fine. " Alright, coming down!" Antonio called. Alfred nodded. Antonio wasn't too high up. Normally, if they weren't in Russia in the middle of winter, Alfred would've been fine with Antonio just climbing down with the cat in hand. However, with such a slippery foothold and one arm holding onto the cat, Antonio was a lot more likely to fall than make it down unscratched. " Hey, Antonio, hand the kitten to me and we can—" Snap. Things seemed to happen in slow motion and Alfred wasn't completely sure what was going on. All he knew was he heard something snap and Antonio was falling. Had he tried to climb down or step on a weak branch? Alfred didn't know. Alfred's mind kicked into autopilot. He was underneath the man already, which helped a lot. Antonio landed directly on his outstretched arms and Alfred fell backwards from the weight and into the snow. Oomf. God, Antonio was heavy. His weight completely rested on Alfred's stomach now. The cold snow was on Alfred's back, sinking into his jacket. He lay there for a moment, a little dazed. Alfred struggled and sat up, pulling himself out from underneath Antonio. " Dude, you're an idiot," Alfred muttered. Not that he was any less of one, but seriously. " You okay?" Hopefully so. It had been a fall, yes, but not too big of one. And Antonio had landed on Alfred, who then fell onto snow. Hopefully that had been enough to break his fall. He started laughing a little, at the whole preposterous situation. " God," he said between chuckles, " That was too much." Alfred's attention was drawn to the kitten that was on Antonio's chest. It seemed mostly undamaged, though it seemed a little frightened. It hadn't run off yet, so that was a good sign. Alfred reached over to gently touch its furry head. It shivered and drew back for a moment before sniffing his hand and allowing him to pet it. Alfred scooped it up off Antonio so the man could get up. " What are we going to do with this thing?" Alfred asked curiously as he petted its head. The kitten mewed and snuggled closer. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

Seemingly the moment he had begun to loosen his arm to pass the kitten down, Antonio heard a crack. A sharp sound that in that second sounded louder than it probably was in reality. “ Dios-” he started, but it was too late. Before any sort of miracle or god could help Antonio was falling through air. On instinct he curled his arm back into him. Both because well having it away from his body in any sort of manner made it more likely to break, and because of the well, small innocent creature he had been trying to save in the first place. There was no chance of a kitten that small surviving if Antonio fell wrong. In fact it was more likely to be alright on its own than with his help at this point. At least as long as it climbed down slowly or was lucky to fall in a particularly thick patch of snow. That seemed a bit of a moot point now though. “ … mío.” Antonio let out with a breath once it was completely understood that he was, in fact, alive along with the kitten. An immediate reaction to the miracle that was their survival and lack of any real damage. One that quickly made itself known by the shifting beneath him. Wait-beneath him-“ Alfred!” No wonder he didn’t feel any pain! Just as the blond moved out from under him Antonio slid to the side, wide green eyes taking in the appearance of their savior. He didn’t-appear to be hurt or in pain. There wasn’t any blood, although that didn’t rule out internal damage. Or latent affects on the neck or spine. “ I’m so sorry-are you okay?” Considering the various things Antonio had done through his life, ranging from innocent boyhood adventures to his a bit more violent escapades later, he knew enough about such things to worry. With that laughter, however, that followed Alfred calling him an idiot… yeah. Things were fine. Once that hit Antonio laughed himself. “ Well I may get a few gray hairs earlier than before-but-I’m good!” He laughed, curling in on himself a little in the snorts. Probably the sort of relieved laugh more than anything after the shock of the fall, but whatever. Laughter was laughter. The best medicine for everything and anything in Antonio’s mind. Whether that be a fall, or a potentially messed possible friendship caused by falling on someone when you were obviously being an idiot pushing your luck. Based on Alfred’s reaction, though, that wasn’t much of a worry. Once Alfred had safely taken the kitten Antonio sat up. No real problem with his own back. No sense of whiplash or jarring from the fall, something he had experienced enough before to know. Yeah, he was fine. At that nod he stood fully and wiped himself off shortly. His chuckles had barely died by that point-“ note to self, Russian trees. Not the best to climb maybe. At least not that one.” At the posed question Antonio looked around the area. Good question… he didn’t see any real lost pet posters anywhere. Or someone that looked at all like they were looking for a kitten that had gotten out. “ Maybe it belongs to someone in the area?” He offered. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 517 Notes: Alfred laughed again. " I'm fine," he said, brushing Antonio off. He might have a bruise or two, but nothing seemed to be broken and that meant things were good. " Yeah, Russian trees kill," Alfred chuckled. " Especially during the winter, which, let's be honest, can last forever." Not that Alfred didn't love snow, but it did seem to heap on them during the winter. Alfred stroked the kitten while he pondered Antonio's question. It would be good to find the kitten's owner, if it had an owner that is. " Maybe..." Alfred said, musing over it. The kitten mewed and snuggled in closer. It was shivering a little, poor thing. Alfred didn't really like cats all that much (dogs were much more fun and they could actually join him on runs), but this one was so tiny and so sweet it would've been a crime not to love it. " It doesn't have any tags or a bell or anything. Maybe it's chipped?" As soon as the words left his lips, Alfred winced a little. Mutants were chipped regularly now, in fact, it was probably a requirement. Treated like no more than animals... No, now wasn't the time to think about depressing thoughts like that. Alfred stood up as well, dusting himself off. The snow hadn't soaked through his clothes, thank goodness. He lifted the kitten above his head. " Did you run away from home?" Alfred asked seriously. It batted at Alfred helplessly, mewing, and Alfred laughed as he brought it closer to him. " It looks pretty thin," Alfred commented as he traced the kitten's fur with his hand. " I honestly doubt it had a home. We could try putting up signs just in case. If nobody answers within a few days though, we can probably assume it was homeless." Poor kitty, born in the middle of winter. That must've been harsh. Where was its mother? Alfred wondered how old the cat was. Was it old enough to be wandering off? Alfred had never raised a cat in his life and hadn't the slightest clue as to how old they had to be. This one had survived enough to climb onto a tree. What had prompted that? A dog maybe? Had it been overwhelmed by the people? " Here, wanna hold it?" Alfred was almost certain that Antonio did so he graciously placed the kitten into the Spaniard's arms. " Whatever we do with this guy—is it a guy?—we should keep it warm and find it somewhere to stay for now." Alfred felt doubtful. His apartment...it would be fine for a cat, but Alfred had never considered pets before. He had really thought it next to impossible, with what he did for a living. Not that Antonio was in a much better situation...he had only just moved here after all. Alfred scratched his head. " How about we start at the grocery store?" he suggested. " Buy a blanket or carrier or some food for this poor thing. Probably the best place to start. The pet store's all the way on the other side and I think it's closed today." i suppose by Worldie for Leia

A flash of a frown passed through Antonio’s face with the idea of such a small baby being homeless. That was… a sad thought. A kitten so young, so small being out in this weather. With little food or warmth, more than a possibility even if it had been with a mother and siblings. When a mother cat didn’t have much food she couldn’t very well have much for her offspring either, although any mother would share all they had and then some for their children… but if this one had been separated from his mother. By the time the small ball of fur had been passed to him Antonio had already replaced his gloves and his overcoat, having done so as Alfred spoke. In this way he could take in the kitten when offered and hold it close to him. Even with fur something this small couldn’t produce much heat at all, especially if it didn’t have much weight to it to insulate itself. The thought only made him cup the kitten closer in some gentle strokes along its small back. Even still-oh! He hadn’t been able to get to zipping up his coat, leaving it open. Carefully he held the kitten with one hand while he brought the zipper up. Just at his chest he stopped, leaving only the soft paws and furry head in the opening. Once he’d finished everything he stopped and held his hands apart to watch and see what their new little charge did. He didn’t appear especially uncomfortable, in fact snuggling down just a bit more before mewing softly. Antonio grinned, slipping his hands in the front pockets to keep the coat tight to his front just in case. Yes, this would work just fine until they got somewhere warm. “ … grocery store…” Ah, talking! Antonio looked up finally, having been a bit preoccupied setting themselves up to be fully tuned in to the blond. Now that he was he caught the idea of going shopping for some basic necessities. That certainly made sense… Although he wondered where they would take the kitten after that. Perhaps Alfred’s, or a friend of his. Antonio supposed he could try and plead his way into keeping the kitten in his hotel room, or just… conveniently not tell the staff. He would have to amp up his search for an apartment with that option, most definitely. He hadn’t necessarily planned to get a pet. Not anytime soon, anyway. But he wasn’t averse to having one. Simply, he’d been too mobile for too long to feel at all right in keeping one. And… he did have a soft spot for cats, oddly enough. Most expected his personality to prefer dogs. And yet here he was, smiling softly at the kitten before he looked up.He nodded. “ Whatever we end up doing, that sounds like the best option at this point.” He agreed. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 500 Notes: Alfred nodded. " Yup," he said cheerfully. He scratched the kitten's head, which poked out from Antonio's mass of jackets. " It's in this direction," Alfred said as they began to walk again. The walk was still cold, but for some reason, it felt a lot warmer with the cat. It wasn't a bad day, Alfred decided. As they walked, Alfred felt the side effects from Antonio's fall onto him a little more consciously—he ached and there were probably a couple of bruises somewhere—but nothing hurt. The day seemed much brighter and better now. The grocery store was rounding up over the corner now. There didn't seem to be too many people, not that it was too surprising. Most people were curled up in their houses. Still, Alfred wouldn't have given the world to have missed today. It was actually turning into a rather pleasant day, if there had been some mishaps. He looked at the cat curiously. " I've never really had a cat," Alfred confessed. " Do you know how to take care of them?" Alfred shrugged. " Not sure if they need anything special...cats always seemed pretty independent to me. Not that I'd know." He laughed. He was ranting a bit now. " At any rate," Alfred said, " while we have it, we might as well name it, right?" He looked straight into the cat's green eyes. " What do you think?" Alfred asked. " Gosh, I just realized..." Alfred laughed at his ignorance a little. " I just noticed that I have no idea if its a he or a she. We could come up with a unisex name," he said, grinning as he stuck his hands in his pockets. " How about you name it?" Alfred said brightly. " Sorta like a, hey you just moved into the neighborhood, here's a cat for you to name." They were standing in front of the grocery store now and Alfred bit his lip. He doubted that animals were allowed inside the facilities, though a poor kitty like this one would do no harm. And he didn't want to leave Antonio outside on his own. Or, more honestly, Alfred didn't want to go into the grocery store and have to find all the kitty supplies on his own. Antonio wouldn't be against a little sneaking about, would he? At least he didn't seem like the sort to tattle. " Hey, not sure if they're gonna let the cat in here," Alfred said, " but let's give it a go anyways. We'll just try to keep him quiet, which he seems to be doing alright with." Alfred would just have to call the kitty a he until they determined the cat's gender. " We'll be in and out in fifteen minutes. The guy can last that long, right?" Alfred certainly hoped so, but it was difficult to tell with animals. Still...unless Alfred stayed outside with the cat while Antonio went to buy—no, that was stupid. Antonio hadn't even been in the grocery store before. It would be better if they all went—kitten included. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

The feeling evoked by the sort of day they were experiencing was not lost on Antonio either. He'd planned to go out and get a feel for the area, visit shops and the like. He was never averse to straying from what he had planned, but he hadn't especially had a feeling that would happen today. And here he was, making a friend, getting first hand recommendations for stores he would have had to scope out himself before more than likely, as well as a little adventure that landed him with another friend of the more furry variety. Not near one of his most eventful days on earth but most definitely of the positive sort all the same. They stopped before entering, making Antonio look to Alfred. And when he admitted that he didn't know much about cats and caring for them Antonio smiled. He would have pegged him as more of a dog person, yes. " They can be pretty independent, yeah. I haven't actually lived with that many cats, but I'm pretty sure you at least need... food, litter, litter box. Maybe some toys and something for them to scratch." He tried to think, there had to be something a bit less space consuming than a scratching post. He supposed there were smaller posts... Plus, Alfred was right that a cage could be required as well. Antonio always assumed one could simply carry their pet wherever they needed to be taken, such as to the vet. But in some cases that could not be an option, even if it was sad to put an animal in a small cage and carry them around so they could feel jarred and confused. Holding them was so much more fun... Which, he supposed, made a kitten a pretty good gift for a new home. Antonio snorted at that-" A welcome to the area gift, instead of a cake or a basket?" As cliche as it was, he had once or twice received welcome packages of that sort to tell him that that was in fact still practiced in some areas. Although animals weren't something he had encountered yet. He looked down at their little friend in his coat. He had heard sexing animals was sometimes harder at a young age. Did that apply to cats? He could look, but that may draw some attention in front of the store. A unisex name seemed plausible enough... " Stripes? Rayas?" The same childish sort of name just in Spanish... no one ever said Antonio could be especially original at times. Maybe he could work on it. They wouldn't be in there long. Saying what he was thinking, Antonio grinned at Alfred. " They don't have to know, it'll be fine," he said, then looked down at the kitten and held a finger to his lips, " just be quiet for a little bit, huh?" He said, before shifting it slightly so he could just zip above it's head, while still leaving the opening close so it could breathe. Antonio glanced down for a moment to make sure the kitten was comfortable, before he looked back up with a smile. " Just be ready with an excuse for a meowing coat." He said, before nodding for the doors as they entered. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 577 Notes: " Alright, sounds good," Alfred said cheerfully. " I've got some money on me...we can probably get small quantities of food and a couple of the cheaper toys until we find either its former owner or a permanent home for it." A permanent home...Alfred honestly didn't think that the cat had an owner. It had no signs of ever having an owner, though it was surprisingly comfortable with humans. And Alfred didn't know enough people who would want a cat. Francis...nah, the man was probably too busy for a cat. Even if they were low maintenance. It would be a thought to drop the cat off with him for a while though...but Alfred hadn't arranged a meeting in the next few weeks... Honestly, the best person seemed to be Antonio. The man seemed to be a natural. As Antonio pondered names, Alfred thought of them as well. " I dunno, I'm pretty bad at naming," Alfred mused. " Maybe just something easy to pronounce and fun to say. You can probably think about it, no need to rush." Alfred felt relief sweep over him when Antonio agreed to his somewhat ludicrous, childish plan. The man seemed just as willing to take risks as Alfred was and he rather liked that fact. He chuckled a little when Antonio looked down at the kitten, telling it to be quiet. Like it would understand...but ah, it was fun to try anyways. Antonio shifted the kitten's position so that he could zip up his jacket. There was a bit of a bulge, but no one would notice if they didn't look too carefully...hopefully. Alfred almost wanted to laugh, it was an interesting sight. " Just be ready with an excuse for a meowing coat." Alfred laughed as the two of them headed in. " It's your new ringtone," he said easily. Alfred was full of excuses. This might even be one of the easier ones to come up with. Alfred had never been in the pet section of the supermarket, except for the once or twice he'd wandered there by accident. It took him a little time as he tried to locate where the aisle was. Alfred moved quickly, poking his head around to see where everything was. Hmm... " Aha, found it," Alfred exclaimed as he spotted the cans of dog food and the various chew toys. He looked around, trying to find where the cat toys were. What did cats even play with? Yarn? A scratching post? Rubber mice? Alfred really have never shopped for a cat before. He scratched his head. There were large bags of cat food and treats, though since they weren't sure how long they'd have the kitten for, Alfred figured it'd be best to steer clear of those. His gaze skimmed over the canned food. Ew...mouse flavor. Well, they were cats... Alfred honestly had no clue what to do about the food, so he decided it was better for Antonio to decide. Toys though, and maybe a cat carrier...Alfred kneeled down to examine the variety of cat toys. Mice hanging on long strings, a small scratching post...they were fairly basic and similar so Alfred grabbed a couple that looked like they would be fun. As for the cat carrier...damn, there were a lot. So many to choose from... " Hey, Antonio, which one do you think would be best?" he asked the Spaniard. Alfred looked up at Antonio. His mouth making a small ‘o’ shape, Antonio nodded at the suggestion of the excuse being a new ringtone. He never would’ve thought of that! Alfred was a smart fellow, wasn’t he? “ Ooooh, I like that. New ringtone… Now I might actually try to find a cat ringtone.” That… actually sounded really cute. It had never occurred to him that such a thing would exist. Antonio normally just used ringtones already programmed into phones anyway. Part because he didn’t quite know how to find and use others, part because he was more up for activity than for being on his phone all the time to require such customization. Perhaps… a small part also being attributed to the fact that he went through phones on an infrequently quick basis depending on what he was doing. As he followed after Alfred Antonio looked around, expecting Alfred knew where he was going for the most part. Antonio took note of where things were as they passed, such as the produce sections and other like things. So far it seemed like a good place to use for his grocery shopping, perhaps he could come back and have a better look at the food rather than the pet goods they were on the hunt for. Smart, Alfred also seemed to be a bit more able to stay on-task than Antonio. He would’ve spent hours looking through various toys and food, reading the ingredients out of curiosity, probably forgotten he wasn’t supposed to have the kitten in the store and brought it out to see which toys it liked best. Alfred instead seemed to stay on track rather well, pulling Antonio from his peering at the back of a small bag of kitten food when he spoke to him. What were they talked about – oh, carriers, from what it looked like. Antonio supposed that was pretty necessary, both for properly bringing the kitten out and about looking for its owner or the vet for a quick check. Also just a closed in space to have somewhere where it could go and feel safe, necessary in that regard even if he preferred the thought of carrying the kitten himself when out. Although he would admit to himself that that wouldn’t go over well in some situations… He bent down, careful of the bulge in his coat and keeping it in mind by pressing his hands into the front pockets to keep it tight against his frame, to peer at the carriers. “ Well, it’s better to get something they can grow into just in case, right? Not something too small even if they’re just a baby now. Can always put a folded blanket or towel on the bottom to make it more comfortable,” he said. He then pulled one hand from his pocket to pull back the top of his coat and peer down, already talking as he did so. “ Well I don’t feel any holes or scratches starting in my shirt, which is a good sign. Seems fine for now, probably just enjoying being warm after sitting in that tree for who knows how long.” made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 609 Notes: Antonio seemed more distracted than Alfred when they shopped, a lot more at ease with where they were and what they were doing despite the kitten in his jacket. Alfred wondered if that was simply how the man worked or if Alfred was just too used to getting in and getting out. It was true that Alfred liked to work fast. It was sort of necessary with his job and everything. Antonio leaned down to check out the carriers after Alfred called him over from the cat food. Alfred wondered if the man had something in mind. Alfred could buy everything except for the food, so hopefully Antonio at least had some experience raising cats. "Well, it’s better to get something they can grow into just in case, right? Not something too small even if they’re just a baby now. Can always put a folded blanket or towel on the bottom to make it more comfortable."Alfred nodded. What Antonio said made sense. The cat would grow, and who knew how much? Better to get a bigger one now than have to invest in two. At least cats didn't grow that much. "How about this one?" Alfred asked, pulling one out. It looked large enough for the kitten and perhaps all except for the largest of cats. It looked comfortable as well. The carrier wasn't as fancy as some of the other options, but it was affordable. Alfred wasn't stingy, per se, but he did watch how much he spent. His income, after all, relied greatly on how many cons he pulled and wasn't exactly always dependable. Antonio looked down his jacket at the kitten. "Well I don’t feel any holes or scratches starting in my shirt, which is a good sign. Seems fine for now, probably just enjoying being warm after sitting in that tree for who knows how long."Alfred smiled. "Good. Well, I picked out a variety of toys. Not sure what this guy likes—did you name him yet?—but he'll have some to choose from." Alfred put the toys into the carrier. He would've offered to put the kitten in as well, but it'd be a bit awkward to explain to the cashier why there was already a cat in the cat carrier. Besides, Alfred figured that Antonio seemed pretty happy with the cat in his jacket for now. At the very least, he didn't seem the slightest bit bothered. As for food...well, that was the last one, right? Alfred walked back down the aisle to where the food was located. He literally had no clue what to buy and he didn't want to spend too long scratching his head over it. “Antonio? Do you have...any idea what to get?” Alfred gestured vaguely at the options. Canned, dry food...how old was the cat anyways? They really should go to the vet sometime but Alfred didn't think the pet store was open and that was the only vet Alfred knew of... "After we get this," Alfred mused, "we can probably head out. And I guess since we've got this fellow, we should probably head home without stopping anywhere else." He glanced at Antonio apologetically. "Do you have a place to stay yet? He can stay with me for a little while but I really can't keep a cat or a pet or anything..." An animal would just tie Alfred down to Archadia, something that he really couldn't afford. He felt a little guilty for pushing a pet onto Antonio. He didn't think Antonio would mind too much but still, the guy had just moved here...and from the sound of it, he didn't tend to stay places long. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

Watching the toys being slipped into the carrier, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh a little. He pulled back his collar once more as he stood up to look down at the ball of fur in his coat. “ You went from being in the cold in a tree to this spoiled already, huh?” How did that saying go, thank your lucky moons? Luck, coincidence, whatever it was that managed to bring this small kitten from such a dire situation into one in which he could live as loved and spoiled as he so deserved, Antonio was thankful for it. Such strokes of providence made him smile and remember a certain sensation of bursting light and warmth in his chest. That good things happened every single day, if you simply looked. Look at the day he’d had so far, for example. Simply going out to explore a new place and he managed to find himself someone as friendly as helpful as Alfred. An exceedingly possible would-be-friend that also had it in him to notice and help an animal in obvious distress. If that wasn’t a stroke of luck or whatever you wanted to call it, Antonio didn’t know what was. It was such a warm, sweet feeling- Ah. Warm. Sweet. He tilted his head. What else brought up a similar sort of feeling? Cinnamon… “ Churro,” Antonio breathed out, his smile soft. A small, cute little bundle of warmth in his coat. Something tiny and sweet on a normal, albeit happy occasion. “ Definitely a churro.” He laughed, light, when he looked back up to Alfred. As celebrated of an achievement as it may have been for Antonio to have finally thought of a name – even one like Churro – that did not mean they were done. Far from it. Following after Alfred down the aisle, Antonio was given another task. “ He can’t necessarily eat churros though, can he?” He mused, thoughtful as his eyes perused the assorted types of food on the shelves. There seemed to be a small section that was related to younger cats specifically. It wasn’t as if they knew the exact age of the kitten, but he was pretty sure the little guy wasn’t yet a year old. “ I guess for now wet food is better?” He said, holding up the can he had taken out to read in a small gesture. Human babies weren’t given solid food for some time, so it certainly made sense that cats weren’t either, right? Right. They could find a vet sometime later to get some better suggestions. A few other cans held in one arm, Antonio tapped one against his chin while looking up. It didn’t sound as if Alfred was all to able to take in the kitten himself. Maybe he couldn’t keep pets where he lived, or just didn’t have the time. Antonio was only in a hotel himself for now, which in itself was a bit of a tricky situation with animals alone, but something as young as this… Hm. He could make it work, somehow. Antonio smiled. “ I think I can take him. It’ll be more incentive to get to work on finding somewhere long term, and I’m fine with that.” made by MISSO for use only by BECCA

it's a revolution Word count: 565 Notes: It is forbidden for things to go smoothly around Al. Antonio's happy mood was contagious, not that Alfred had been the least bit upset before. "Churro," Antonio said happily after Alfred's question about deciding on a name. "Definitely a churro." Alfred laughed as he stood up. Churro was certainly an interesting name. Alfred had only had it a few times in his life back in the U.S. It was a Spanish snack though, so it made sense that Antonio would choose to name his cat after the same thing. Alfred would probably have done the same if he'd had a pet of his own. Except Burger or French Fry didn't exactly make for an appealing pet name... The thought of food reminded Alfred that they were supposed to be looking for cat food. Antonio scanned the brands and thought out loud. "He can't necessarily eat churros though, can he?" Antonio mused. Alfred thought about it briefly. "Nah," he said. "Churro's a cat. They tend to eat uh...fish and stuff. It's dogs that will eat anything you put in front of them."Antonio mentioned wet food and Alfred shrugged, trusting Antonio's judgment. He'd only ever had a dog before, and canned food was usually given as a treat instead of regular meals in his house. Antonio picked up a few cans as he thought about what Alfred said about taking in the cat. He was a little relieved when Antonio said that he could take in the cat, however there was a sense of guilt as well. "I can take him for now until you find a place to settle down," Alfred offered. "You're probably in a hotel or staying with a friend right now, right? Once you've got a more permanent place to say I can bring him over. That'll probably be easier for you."Alfred briefly surveyed their possessions before feeling satisfied. He took a blanket from nearby and put it in the carrier along with the food and toys. It'd help keep Churro warm while they took him home. "I think we're all set!" Alfred said cheerfully. "Let's head towards the cashier." He picked up the carrier easily and began to walk towards the register. There wasn't much of a line. It seemed like most people had opted to stay indoors during the cold weather, something that Alfred couldn't exactly blame them for. It was getting late and the temperature was dropping rapidly (if it could drop any further). "New pet?" the woman at the register asked as she rang up everything. Alfred nodded and gave her a smile, reaching for his own wallet. Antonio was probably too preoccupied with managing Churro to get his own wallet and it was sort of Alfred's fault that the guy was going to end up with a cat. Not that Alfred thought Antonio minded much, but hey, common courtesy dictated that he at least pay for this stuff. He was just swiping his card when Alfred heard a low "mew." He paused for a moment, sincerely hoping that it had just been his imagination or that the lady wouldn't notice. That was too much to hope for though. Sure enough, her eyes widened just a fraction. "Was that a cat?" she asked suspiciously. "A cat?" Alfred laughed. "No, it's my friend's ringtone."He really hoped that Churro was not about to... "Meow." This time, it was accompanied by scratches against Antonio's coat. Too late. i suppose by Worldie for Leia

“ Are you sure?” Antonio said, frowning just barely in concern. Even as friendly and lacking in social decency as he could often be, even he knew that it was a bit much to ask someone you’d just met to take on the responsibility of an animal, and a young one at that. That said, it would be preferable to trying to convince a hotel manager to allow him to have a young probably untrained animal in his room. Or to try and hide him for that long… “ For that I would definitely have to make you a full meal or five,” he smiled again, sincere despite the faint laugh in his voice. He didn’t mind cooking for others in the first place, but he would definitely be indebted if Alfred ended up taking the kitten for what was currently an undetermined amount of time. Antonio was mentally noting that it would be more like six meals if Alfred was going to pay, pulling out his wallet before Antonio could try to situate the small bulge in his coat so he could produce his own. He sighed internally. He was used to the grace and generosity of others, having traveled for so long and ending up in some of the oddest of situations where he was at the mercy of human kindness. This did speak further in favor of Alfred’s character, though, which only further endeared him to Antonio. It added to the smile he gave with the nod to the woman at the register. The smile that gave that minute twitch with the sound that came from his coat. Twitched and then gained that mildly anxious tint to it. “ It was between that or Eye of the Tiger. And who doesn’t like cute kitten noises?” He offered, shrugging. A part of him hoped his speaking would cover any further sounds. But, naturally, that only meant that Churro would wait until he was done speaking to meow even louder and promptly begin to scratch at the inside of his jacket. A sigh and falling of his shoulder. “ Cat’s out of the sack, huh?” He said, unzipping his coat enough for a head to poke out and shake away the tension around the small creature’s ears that he’d been putting up with in the stuffy jacket. “ I don’t suppose Alien is a better excuse?” He said, holding Churro out a little for a moment with a soft, ‘ blegh’ sound. He laughed. “ I’m really sorry. He was so small and cold in a big bad tree when we were out walking and it wouldn’t be right to save him just to leave him out in the cold again trying to find some things for him, would it?” Antonio apologized, his frown leaning a fair amount on the childish side when he held the kitten up once more, just below his own face. made by MISSO for use only by BECCA
