LOVI fear is an absolute driving force | Footsteps seemed to echo through the long hall of cells, a tune hummed in a low tone as a dark-haired man strolled down the rows. He wore the typical guard’s attire, baton twirling at his left hand as dark eyes glanced over each and every mutant holed up in those sad excuses for cages. They were too nice, though, at least in his eyes. It was kind to give these monsters large enough spaces to move about freely. They were treated like animals already; bought, sold, and given no real rights. Even better, they were thrown into cock fights. Bets were placed on them. How more inhumane can you get? So may as well be honest about how they’re treated.
The tune of O Death fell into rhythm with his footsteps, that wry grin spread across his features. He wanted to see them all. Every last mutant he wanted to know the face, name, and ability of. Why? Well, it certainly wasn’t to make them appear more human in his eyes. That would never happen.
Instead, he wanted to be able to spot them in a crowd should they ever escape. Clearly before he got here security wasn’t up to par. They weren’t equipped to handle these monsters, as they still aren’t. No matter how safe you think they are, it’s just like keeping killer whales in captivity… They’ll do their tricks, eat their treats, and possibly go an entire lifetime without trouble… But one of them is bound to eventually react, and it is never a pretty sight. Since there’s no releasing them into the “wild”, however, it was simply easier to kill them.
Vaughan stopped suddenly and turned to face a cell. Chicken wire laced the bars as a pesky cat idled within. Lovino… That was his name. Possibly the most useless mutant ever. He had a brother, but apparently that one got lucky and escaped. This one had been caught… Stupid thing. A bit of food and a scratch behind the ears. He really was already an animal.
And cats weren’t exactly strong. Hell, he could probably snap the thing’s neck with one hand. It would’ve been satisfying to feel the crack of bone and hear the waling suddenly go silent as its throat collapsed beneath the thumb pressing into it. If it hadn’t been considered a “valuable” then he would just walk in there now and do it.
Of course, then he’d have to thoroughly wash his hands after. No telling what diseases the thing carried.
”You look comfy,” he mused, tilting his head as he peered at the small creature within, ”Mind if we talk?” Not that it mattered. He was just being sarcastically polite. The thing’s words- or Lovino- was just a mutant. Plus, he was stuck inside that cell. He’d have to listen regardless.
”I hope you’re not too lonely. It must suck not being the one that got away.” |

One human certainly had a way for ruining a small mutant’s trust that he had regained in a short time, with only one motion. At first, Lovino was happy he found a woman who seemed kind enough to kneel down beside him and feed him bits and pieces of her lunch’s leftovers. Bread crumbs were something the feline desperately swallowed down after having roamed the city of Arcadia for nearly two months, lost and hungry. After the grand escape from the underground, Lovino was determined to find his way to Antonio’s house, to the house he learnt to trust a certain human and knew he would be safe in. The city however was nowhere near kind to a little feline trying to find his way around. Having not known the streets and only able to pick up hints here and there of food from sniffing the air for familiar scents, Lovino ended up heading in the opposite direction, led by the scent of flowers he remembered the store lined along the walls. What he was led to however was a nearby park, where the same flowers bloomed. Exhausted, Lovino took shelter under a wooden bench, where he was spotted by this female human. She seemed worried at first, offering him food and old blankets for the first few days, until Lovino learnt to trust in this human. The first day she brought over cat food however, everything changed. Lovino refused to eat the animal food, the scent alone stinging his nostrils. Though he was fine with eating roaches and rats back in the underground, he grew spoiled on human food leftovers, that straight up cat food didn’t look appetizing one bit. Figuring the human would bring normal food the following day, Lovino just stayed hidden under the bench, pushing the offered cat food away, ignoring the worried and confused looks from the girl. That had to be his mistake. Apparently after only small amount of watching the news, the girl figured the cat as a mutant and reported him just in case—which in the end resulted in his capture. So now Lovino found himself thrown back into the concrete cell, where he paced back and forth looking for the fresh air he was spoilt with outdoors. The underground smelled so different with the scent of blood, tears, rotten flesh, and the screams and sobs were unsettling to the sensitive ears. He tried to block out everything by trying to sleep through his days, only waking up to pace or eat the food given to him. Today however, there was something different. Lovino’s ears flicked at the sounds of footsteps first, having not expected such sounds at this hour. He blinked slowly, trying to calm himself back to sleep. It was just some random guard that was bored, he bet. Better if he pretended to stay asleep, so he would be left alone. Wrapping his tail around his body, the feline mutant turned to face away from the bars, just as he heard the voice speak to him. Wait… He wanted something to do with him? Well that was rare… Usually guards held no interest in a mutant with such simple useless powers. “…?” Lovino looked to the barred and cell door, narrowing his eyes a bit in annoyance at the man’s voice. The spoken words were nowhere near as friendly, and with his wariness with humans having increased with his event of capture, he was far from willing to stay civil. When asked if he could have a talk, the feline simply used his tail as a response, it tapping on the bed he was laying on in annoyance. He didn’t bother with words until the man continued speaking, making Lovino’s lips curl slightly and whiskers to pull back, exposing his fangs as he growled his answer. “Lonely? Hah. I rather you leave me be so I can just go back to sleep.” He responded, his words spoken cleverly in mix of feline noises, “…And I got away. Out and about the city, because you dumb humans couldn’t do shit to stop me or any of the other mutants. Sucks to be stupid enough to let it happen, eh?” Sure, he got caught again, but that was only because he was caught off guard… Right? It wasn’t a fair fight, anyway. by worldie for puchi

LOVI fear is an absolute driving force | He wasn’t a cat person. He just wasn’t. He loved dogs and their utter loyalty. You could treat them like shit- not that he would- and they would still only seek love. Even his own pup was always at his side every moment they were together. There was just this desire to please, despite the circumstances. Such a pure, innocent view of the world.
Cats, on the other hand, were small demons. They were loners, not loyal at all, and couldn’t be more useless to the world. They were pets for the lazy. People who didn’t care for the attention, but just wanted to say they had a pet. They could go months without seeing them and effectively take care of them. When worse came to worst they’d simply find somewhere else to go. Nothing held them there.
And then there was this sad creature.
”Don’t say you humans when I wasn’t here yet.” He grinned, rolling his shoulders as he eyed the critter. If he weren’t so valuable… ”Still, from what I hear your brother’s still wandering about freely while you… what was it? Got turned in? At least we know which is the stupid one of the two.”
What was the point of all this? No doubt this sad, pathetic thing already knew just how useless he was. A sack of meat thrown into the arenas on occasion to get the bigger ones riled up. ”And you know he’s never coming back for you, either.”
Because it stung. It had to. Whether it was the fact that he cared for his brother and was abandoned or that he was being compared to him and perceived as the lesser of the two, any one of those would help. Anything to foster spite toward the other and bring him one step closer to perhaps naming names. Who knows if he has an idea of where this brother of his is? And has just never said anything. Even if he doesn’t know, any sort of information on where he might wander off to would help.
He just needed to slowly weaken this one until he broke.
He didn’t need to spit and curse at him… Just remind him of how worthless he truly was.
The truth hurts, wasn’t it? Yeah, it did… |

”Don’t say you humans when I wasn’t here yet.”Lovino easily picked up on the grin that spread onto the man’s face, and his own ears flattened against his small head at the mere sight of it. Whether it was from disgust or fear, the feline mutant wasn’t sure; he just didn’t like how that grin looked on that man’s face. It didn’t matter who was the human who kept guard of the mutants at the time of escape; all humans were the same anyway. Well, except one that he clearly still remembered, but other than that… Lovino kept his lips curled to continue exposing his favorite weapon, his own sharp fangs, as the man continued to talk, rambling on his own. “Still, from what I hear your brother’s still wandering about freely while you… what was it? Got turned in? At least we know which is the stupid one of the two.”Finally, the body that was turned away from the bars shifted to face them, his eyes narrowing at the spoken words. If there was anything to give this man credit for, it was his knowledge on how to rile up this little feline. He was sick of always being compared to his younger sibling since he was a youngling, that it even ruffled him up under his fur to this day. Of course it wasn’t fun being compared to somebody, but when it came to a close family member, it was just that much more painful. The stupid one of the two…? Was he, really? No, he couldn’t be. For all he knew, his brother too could be dead in the streets, starving since he didn’t know how to dig from the trash or hit by a car in the middle of the road. At the very least, Lovino knew how to avoid those, having kept himself quite well fed and out of the streets where the huge machines drove by. His brother could be crying in the alleyway, unable to trust anyone but himself and possibly a few other close mutant friends who he separated from upon the escape. Lovino didn’t do that. Sure, it was all just his imagination, but there were endless possibilities that, though he got caught, he was not the stupid one. He just happened to make a tiny mistake. “And you know he’s never coming back for you, either.”“…”Lovino simply sighed, unable to help but to purr in sarcastic amusement at the final words spoken. Of course he wasn’t coming back; who would? If his brother happened to be alive and well despite all the possibilities of not being so, he wouldn’t want to return to this hell of a cell. Lovino certainly didn’t himself when he was outdoors, free to breathe in fresh scents upon each inhale of air. Now he was stuck down here, the same dull smells numbing his nose every passing day. Of course his brother wouldn’t come back for him. That was a given. “You humans are all the same,” he finally mused in between his purrs, pressing himself up on the poor excuse of a mattress to sit, “you think a family bond is supposed to be something we have? When you take it from us when we’re too young to remember shit? Of course he isn’t coming back, he has no reason to.” He then lowered his head a bit, shaking it. The purrs stopped right after he stated so however, followed by more mixtures of cat noises to make out words. “…But let me make one thing clear for your dumb brain… I’m not ‘the stupid one’, as you just tried put it. If anything, the dumb one is the other one out there, probably dead in the streets somewhere since he never learnt how to live out there on his own, or was bought on a contract to explore for that matter. If you have time wasting to talk to me, why don’t you go out there to find his rotting corpse?”by worldie for puchi
