Summer came late in Archadia. The temperature had melted all the snow, yet it felt cold still. At least Nesia could leave her gloves and earmuffs in her apartment after wearing them for months whenever she was out. The warmer weather brought joys among her fellow designers as they were making summer inspired jewelry. But Nesia had lost her inspiration. She poured so much into her last work, therefore Nesia needed to recharge her dry imagination. A walk around the city might help her.
Somehow, the Indonesian designer found herself upon the entrance of the Underground. Her only trip into its depths left a bitter memory. She walked around the entrance several times, trying not to look as suspicious as possible with hands in the pockets and eyes glued to the pavement. Nesia should have brought someone with her here, although the other designers were busy so they would decline her offer. Not that they would accept if their schedule allowed it. Most of them did not come from a wealthy family like hers. Mutants were not affordable luxuries for them.
On the other hand, Nesia needed to tell anyone, anyone about her visit. The young woman had been keeping it as secret, lying to everyone who asked her why Nesia looked sick days later. How unpleasant. She used to tell everything to her sisters, but they had grown apart as they became older. Besides, there was no guarantee they would not tell their parents about Nesia's unfortunate trip. Father might be furious.
Knowing that she would draw suspicion for lingering too long, Nesia turned her heels towards another street. Maybe Oxana, her superior, was right. She should look for inspirations in a more innocent place. Anything is more innocent than the Underground. There were magnificent architecture around Archadia, halls with huge windows, carved pillars and walls adorned with exquisite paintings.
Thirst prompted her to go to a small cafe nearby. Nesia paused at its entrance, inhaling the rich scents of fresh pastries and beverages. They managed to lift her mood, so she approached the counter and ordered their largest serving of hot chocolate. [[ Elizaveta Héderváry ]]

INFINITY (n.) the state of being limitless Elizaveta squinted in the bright sunlight as she exited the Underground.
The musty smell fell behind her as fresh air filled Elizaveta's lungs. She inhaled sharply and for the first time that day, a smile crossed her face.
Sunshine.
Summer in Archadia was never quite warm, but Elizaveta enjoyed it nevertheless. The sun on her skin...how beautiful it was to be free of the Underground.
It was always one of the best parts of her day, being able to resurface and for an hour or so and allow herself to relax. It was difficult, after all, keeping every guard in line and maintaining a strict presence around the Underground. Elizaveta, though she may not have adored her job, took it seriously. The entire city was at stake.
Elizaveta smiled as she headed towards a small café near the Underground. Most of the guards were in the middle of their shift, and it wasn't like many of them went to cafés for meals. They typically went off to bars and cheap restaurants. As much as Elizaveta wished to pull away from her mother's insistence on high society and politics, Elizaveta did enjoy a good, classy meal. Cafés, though not quite classy, were always so warm and welcoming and made Elizaveta feel at home.
This one was nestled away in a corner, a small homey shop that Elizaveta could have spent hours in if she had the chance. Elizaveta entered easily before heading to the counter and ordering a cappuccino. The baristas at this café were always exceptionally talented in making designs in the cream. Intricate and beautiful, they were always unique in one way or another. Elizaveta could not always keep a low profile, but there was always a corner for her in this café to sneak off to. She was enough of a regular that the baristas knew her by name, and as she ordered, they greeted her as such.
It was the in-betweens that Elizaveta found she appreciated the most, the points where she did not need to be the Head Guard or the Governor's daughter. It was the only place Elizaveta could form the few friendships she possessed, the few times that Elizaveta felt happy and in her own place as her own person. This café was one of her few safe havens, a secret place to stow away.
Elizaveta waited patiently for her coffee, breathing in the scent of coffee beans and chocolate, of buttered croissants and muffins. If only she could live like this forever. | words 420 tags #@derpinesia notes has anyone ever been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

There was a display case filled with delicacies beside the cash register. While most people's sight would be fixated on that, Nesia found herself watching the staff who took her order went to make her chocolate. She loved food making. The process was soothing her. Her focus remained intact, hence she didn't turn her head when the bell rang and another guest stepped into the establishment. Although her eyes kept trailing the barista who was handling her order, the Indonesian couldn't help but hearing what the new guest ordered beside her. Apparently she was a regular customer. So Nesia glanced to the side.
A tall figure with neatly arranged hair. She was pretty, Nesia could tell. But the attire was rather formal. Had she seen it before? The badge and emblem were only worn by the people who worked in the Underground. Then she must be a guard. Her heart beat faster all of a sudden. This is a moment she had been looking for since her only visit to the Underground. A chance to know how that place was managed. But a guard... couldn't be approached that easily, could she?
"... -der is ready, miss."
"Oh, thank you." Her thoughts occupied the designer's mind so much, making her did not notice the large white mug sitting on the counter waiting for her to take it. Nesia smiled at the barista as she took it from the counter and headed to the nearest empty table. Other guests nearby noticed the new guest - the guard - too. From her table, Nesia could see the guard's face better if she leaned a little onto her chair...
She recognized the woman. No, she never met her in person before this moment, but Nesia had seen her face on the papers and news sometimes, almost always accompanied by the Archadian Governor and his wife. Nesia did not know that his daughter worked in the Underground - she barely paid any attention to the Governor's private life.
Staring at her untouched beverage and clean polished table, Nesia made her mind. The woman took her drink, and after deeming that the guard had settled comfortably, approached the taller woman. "Hi," Nesia smiled and waved her hand a bit. "I see you sit alone and... may I join you? I'm Nesia, Nesia Notonegoro by the way."

INFINITY (n.) the state of being limitless The barista finished Elizaveta's order quickly, just as always, and Elizaveta thanked her warmly. She picked up the warm mug and took a quick sip. Mmm. “Perfect as always,” Elizaveta commented, giving the woman a smile.
Elizaveta settled down at her usual spot easily, mug in hand. The corner seat offered Elizaveta plenty of privacy while feeling perfectly cozy at the same time. The warm scent of coffee drifted in the air and Elizaveta thought she'd never been more content. Strange and a little sad that the peak of her life now rested in these simple pleasures, but, Elizaveta reasoned, there was nothing wrong in finding joy in the small things.
Elizaveta sipped the coffee, closing her eyes and allowing herself to savor the moment. If only she could stay here forever. It was nice just to pause, to sit here and enjoy herself. At the end of the day, despite her ranking, despite her class, Elizaveta was not that fancy of a woman. Certainly she could enjoy herself at high class parties, but she was just as likely to enjoy a relaxing bath.
“Hi.”
Elizaveta looked up to see a woman standing next to her, holding a mug similar to Elizaveta's own. Elizaveta blinked. She wasn't usually interrupted. Not that Elizaveta minded it that much. She was in a surprisingly amiable mood right now, and the woman seemed alright as she smiled and waved. She asked for permission to sit with Elizaveta, speaking in a light accent.
“Sure, sit down,” Elizaveta said with a smile. It wasn't something she typically did but it was her break and Nesia seemed like decent company. Notonegro...Elizaveta didn't know the last name off the top of her head. She looked like a foreigner, judging by her complexion. But other than that, Elizaveta couldn't think of much. Which was fine by her. If Elizaveta didn't know her by face or by name, then she was probably just an ordinary, albeit friendly, citizen.
“I'm Elizaveta,” she said, offering her hand to shake. She left out her last name...best not to get into her family if possible. “Do you come here often?” Elizaveta had never seen the woman around, an oddity considering that Elizaveta visited quite often...perhaps she was new? It was perfectly possible, people came to Archadia all the time. | words 385 tags #@derpinesia notes Sorry this took me like...forever. |
