He's the meanest little kitty... He could no longer pick up the noises coming from the panicked underground.
Stretching his forepaws as far as he could and kicking with his back legs hard with each leap, the cappuccino colored tabby panted heavily and sped through the dark streets of Arcadia. Despite living in the area for years, he had no idea where he was or where he was headed, and only had two things in his mind that really mattered to him at the moment. Finding a park, the cat pushed himself under a bench there and looked around with wide eyes for any real rogue cats to claim the area as their property. After a few minutes of fear-stuck silence he finally relaxed his breathing and licked his shoulder to calm himself further, sorting out the events in his mind that just happened. One by one the event came together from being just flashes of scenes to one fixed memory. His brother opening his cell door and telling him and his cellmate to run… Lovino rushed out with the chance given to him without hesitation, having stopped and tried to keep running with his brother by his side, knowing exactly where he could go for safety. His past owner’s house… That little flower shop in the district. There, he was given shelter, food, and personal attention—Too caught up in his thoughts while running, the cat mutant failed to notice when he was separated with his brother in the rushed panic escape, and as much as he wanted to go back and search for that idiot, he knew he couldn’t even figure out which way he came from himself. He was just as stuck in his own route, unable to find out which direction to head to.
With his fur finally laying flat on his shoulder, Lovino blinked slowly and searched his surroundings, sniffing the air and listening for any familiar noises or voices. The mutants all spread in their escapes, rushing to different routes that it was almost impossible to find one of them now on his own. He was alone, and as much as he wanted to go and find the others he was familiar with from the dark underground, he had to think of his own survival first. Luckily, unlike some of the other mutants who were doomed the moment their face was seen and were pointed out to being a mutant, Lovino knew he could pass as a stray cat if it came to it. He would just have to be careful to not say anything to the humans and avoid changing forms for a bit. He can easily use this bench as shelter, and food…
Lovino’s ears drooped a bit at the thought of food. He sniffed once more and noticed the garbage can not far away, but the first scent that came to him from it was one of nicotine, that it immediately caused the cat to think otherwise of ways to feed himself than to be picking from the trash. He could easily grab the rats that roamed the alleys, but where were those? His stomach growled at the thought of juicy rats and with having not been fed in some time now, he decided to go find what he considered the biggest necessity; the place to find food for his survival as a ‘stray cat’. Rubbing his cheek along the bench to claim it as his own from other cats possibly roaming the area, Lovino began walking through the streets, noticing the scent of humans getting stronger with every step.
He wanted to find Antonio’s house. The place that offered him as much freedom as he did security, good full meals, a cat companion to keep him company when he was lonely, and though an idiot, a bubbly man that knew him more than anything and constantly showered him with obvious affection that the cat mutant much needed. If only he could find that house, he knew that Antonio would be willing to hide him while also giving him enough safety so that the cat mutant didn’t have to stay in this form forever. He trusted Antonio, he was the first that came to mind when he had the chance to escape as to where to head to… He wanted to find that house.
What he found instead first however, was a large house in the middle of the residential area of this city. With it being early in the morning, Lovino could spot a few humans here and there drunk and walking back home or some in business wear getting in their cars for a very early work schedule starting. Lovino lowered his head and sniffed the air a few times, turning his attention to one of the big houses. The smell of food coming from that house was the most he could notice, the main scent being the variety of fish. Tuna… Salmon… Lovino’s mouth watered just picking out the scents of his favorite fish meals. Gulping, back the excessive saliva in his mouth before he would start drooling, Lovino made his way to the house, ignoring the curious glances of people that it earned when he walked to it, before they turned their drunken or hurrying attention somewhere else. A stray cat seemed to not be an uncommon thing to see around here it seemed.
Lovino stopped at the front door when he reached it, sniffing and listening carefully. He couldn’t get a presence of a human from inside, and that calmed his quivering body as he let some nerves relax. He couldn’t see a doggy door on the door where it would allow him to sneak in (and thank god, seeing that meant this house didn’t own any dogs), so he carefully glanced up towards the windows that lined the large house. Testing the ground under his back legs by shifting his weight to and from them, he jumped as high as he could, easily managing to push against the window a bit. When it didn’t open, he moved to the next, just looking for one that have been forgotten to be locked… And once jumping up to the fourth one, Lovino purred in satisfaction when the window creaked and opened slightly, allowing enough space for him to slip through and inside the house.
Jumping down and landing on the kitchen counter, Lovino glanced at the fridge that the scents were emitting from and had to hold himself back from purring loudly excitedly. Finally, some real fish… He hadn’t had any in so long. The underground gave him a slice of bread and often just called it a day, so being able to eat something he loved… Stopping himself in front of the fridge to listen carefully one more time, Lovino took a second to change forms and opened the fridge with ease, before he shifted back to his animal form for quicker movements and pulled out the fish he had been smelling from almost a mile away. Salmon and tuna was great, as well as the meat he was able to pull out the freezer above as well, the raw chicken and beef almost easily filling his empty stomach and satisfying it. He was so engulfed in eating out the open beeping fridge that he didn’t notice he footsteps he would have otherwise heard coming into the kitchen…

If Sadik hadn't heard of those news almost the exact same time it had happened, it was not worth knowing. Of course almost everyone in the city knew of it; most ran into their little pitiful homes and thinking that it might be safe enough. He almost felt sorry for those idiots, just almost. Did they really think that they could escape mutants that could basically bend elements, materia, possessed strength beyond human capacity and so on? Then he didn't even feel pity for them; just humour that someone could be so obvious.
Sadik himself wasn't afraid on what the mutants might and might not do; he didn't feel the same frightment as "normal humans" did for them. He felt more pity towards those mutants that had escaped. Wanting freedom, yet knowing what that really held in store for them; alone and afraid mostly. He knew some of them would probably freak out, some of them might take this as an opportunity to explore and finally get to feel.. free.
Standing by the window, looking out over his peaceful garden that was still. The gardener had finished his work for today, servant were nowhere to be seen, probably preparing in some other room or having their break of sort. It was so peaceful, Sadik both loved and hated it. In his home, it was delightful. No annoying noises and he could think, but in his nightclub and cafe it would be worrisome if it was quiet, so right now, the Turkish man did enjoy this a lot.
What was there to do on a day like this one? He had no meeting booked, and it was a Monday; meaning that the cafe could do without him, and the nightclub would not be open until Wednesday again. It was so boring! Sadik was whining in his own mind, actually considering going to his cafe just to get something to do; but he knew the workers there was probably tired of seeing him so often by now, and he just bothered them out of boredom. Sadik didn't do well with boredom; he'd always have too much to do so standing around wasn't exactly what he was used to, even if just relaxing now and then was nice as well.. But not like this when he hadn't asked for it.
But a strange sound disturbed his thoughts as he looked behind himself with an arched eyebrow. What had that been? It sounded like something being dropped in a rather sloppy fashion from a high shelf.. Was his servants becoming sloppy? No, he doubted that, they would rather walk up to him and resign before that, Sadik hated when people messed up his place and did unnecessarily things that took more time than it really should.
Sighing as it was better to find the source of the noise and check it up, and hoping it wasn't some mutant that had gone into his home to trash it and act like they owned it.
Mask still on his face to cover it, even wearing it for the servants as he made his way downstairs, and still hearing some strange noises that made him wary. Someone was in his kitchen, and he was 100% sure of that now, judging of the noises that was going on and the fact that Sadik could just feel it, someone was there, without permission, touching his stuff. That made him a bit angry, not furious, but upset that some people had no manners on what was theirs and what was someone else's.
But as soon as he got inside, he still heard the noises yet.. He saw no one? That was strange, he could swear that..
Looking down, he realised that it wasn't some human that had sneaked inside to trash his house or one of his clients was not there to kill him. By the refrigerator was a rather thin cat, eating of his.. Meat.. From the refrigerator and looking quite smug with himself. Well, that was for certain a sight that he had not been prepared for, at all, and he didn't know what to do. Scratching his neck, as he crouched down instead where he was standing, just observing the obviously very hungry kitten.
"Poor thing, you're that hungry?" A stray, it didn't have a collar nor some numbers in his ears what Sadik could tell from that distance, no wonder it was so hungry. "You look so thin, how long have you been wandering those streets without a proper meal?" His voice was soft and calm, not wanting to scare the cat or make it uncomfortable, hence why he was trying to keep a low profile, despite how he was built.
Shaking his head, how could anyone do this to an animal? Humans he could understand, they could be evil by nature, but not an animal, they were innocent. "It's okay, just don't eat yourself sick." Clearly concerned for the animal."But.. How on earth did you manage to open the fridge and get those stuff out? I'm quite impressed.. And how did you even get inside? You're a clever cat, aren't you?" It seemed a bit suspicious, but he did not think twice of it, instead, he just sat down, still observing the cat in front of him, in hope that he would answer, which he knew he wouldn't already, and to see what it would do. Run away after this? Stay? Doubtful, strays were usually afraid of humans. Too sad, since he looked like he was a rather beautiful cat, if he'd just got more meat on his bones and maybe a proper wash.

He's the meanest little kitty... Footstep after footstep were heard, but Lovino’s ears had completely blocked it out, focused solely on filling his mouth with the juicy meat and fulfilling his stomach with something other than crusy bread served in the underground. One bite after another he swallowed down whatever came into his mouth, his fangs piercing the raw food and tearing it apart messily, the feline avoiding all the less juicy parts and eating only what satisfied his taste buds; mainly the skin and fat that hung from the meat. What caught his attention and took it away from the meat however, was not the sound of the footsteps nearing him, but instead the scent of a man that suddenly wafted into the kitchen. His head immediately snapped up and his ears perked up in alert, before he fluffed his tail up and moved behind the large chunk of beef he was chewing on, trying to get what little distance he could between the human and himself. The mask came into view, startling him from being unable to read the expression at first.
Shit… He was caught. There was nothing he could do at this point but to be on guard as much as he could, quickly eyeing the window he slipped in from. At that very moment instead of his own safety, the image of his frightened brother came to his mind. Possibly curled up in some ally dump, shaking and crying, unable to recollect himself after the event happening so fast… Why didn’t he look behind him to make sure his brother was following him the whole time? Why was he so focused on the single goal, to reach that small flower shop in the middle of the town? Was it something that really was worth parting with the one thing that the family treasured? Now he really felt like a failure, not only to his brother but to the whole family. What would Mama or Papa say about this if they ever found out? Would they abandon him all over again? Sure he didn’t live up to their expectations… If they ever had any for their mutant son, but Lovino would’ve liked to think they still thought of him from time to time… Perhaps it was just to keep his own ego, but Mama loved and trusted him to protect his brother, right…? Especially at times like this, when he could’ve most likely saved him from fear? Where was Feliciano…?
“Poor thing, you’re that hungry? You look so thin, how long have you been wandering those streets without a proper meal?” The soft, calm voice that spoke with caution to not frighten a cornered animal reached Lovino’s perked ears, and he found himself gulping slowly, slowly raising his head from it’s original bowed position. He let a low feline growl rumble from his throat as the man continued to speak, sitting down slowly where he was original standing at. “It’s okay, just don’t eat yourself sick. But… How on earth did you manage to open the fridge and get those stuff out? I’m quite impressed… And how did you even get inside? You’re a clever cat, aren’t you?” The man went on and on, talking in the same soft tone, and eventually Lovino winced slightly. His claws unsheathed for a quick moment as he was hit with a dark picture in his mind.
The same soft spoken voice, the same tone, same gentleness, all being spoken by a man. A man in his late fourties, with a cane in that fat hand, grasped in between the chubby fingers. The sound of chains rattling, teeth chattering against each other, and the heart thumping wildly in fear in his chest. It all mixed in with that same sickly sweet tone, mocking the mutant and soon adding the noise of cutting wind with the thin but sturdy wood. The whistling sound made by the cane swiping through the air, followed by a loud smack that echoed through the basement room he was forced to sleep in, and the same soft voice speaking over and over saying it was his fault. If it wasn’t for him, he wouldn’t be getting hurt. If he was a good little pet like he was meant to be, then he wouldn’t be getting punished. The human would claim that they would hate to have to hurt him again, yet they did so every moment they felt bored or irritated at some random problem, most times when it didn’t even concern Lovino himself. The old scars on his pads suddenly felt like they were getting tickled with a small flame of fire, and the cat mutant found himself beginning to lift his left front paw slightly off the ground in a fertile attempt to stop the mental pain.
And with that, also came the image of another contract he went through. The one he enjoyed the most by far, his most recent one that had him searching for the store ever since the underground breakout was made a miraculous possibility. The man who owned a tiny flower shop and could only afford to stay in a story above it to claim at his house, where he and a kitten and the mutant himself were forced to live in the tiny area of a house. The couch was his favorite place, and the human allowed for him to lay on it all day if he wished, he could use the kitchen whenever he wanted to, and nothing but being the man’s company was expected out of him. And by that, just a few chit chats and discussions about what to have for dinner, playing simple board games that Lovino never knew about, watching a movie, or just sitting by each other munching on tomatoes was enough to fulfil that duty given to him. It was easy, it was new, and Lovino just wanted to go back to it. The man also used that soft tone when Lovino found himself upset or frightened by the new experiences, but never was it followed with a smack or a yell. As the curly haired Spaniard replaced the image of the fat middle aged man, Lovino found himself relaxing a bit, being able to think rationally at the possibility of this man in front of him not going to immediately hurt him at the spot. Still, though, he would have to keep up his guard.
By the way the man was speaking, at the very least, he hadn’t seemed to notice that Lovino was a mutant. That was a good thing, as far as the feline mutant was concerned. Whether he knew about the Underground breakout or not was not known to him yet, but the fact that he could be seen as a normal cat at this moment was good enough. Perhaps he could play it off as so? He knew he had the window to slip out of at any point in time as soon as he felt danger, and the man for now seemed to allow him to just sit and eat all the food he wanted to, so that was something he could take advantage on… What normal human would allow a feral cat to eat out of the refrigerator, after all? This might be his only chance to stuff his stomach before he would head on the long trip to search for the shop. As his tail’s fur slowly laid flat against the skin, Lovino warily lowered his head back to take a few more chunks of meat into his mouth and swallow it down. He had eaten so much already, though, that he felt bloated. His stomach must’ve shrunk when he was back in the underground after his wonderful contract… Fuck. How long would he last on the streets with this stomach?
He turned to face the window as soon as he noticed he was full, before he turned back to the human’s way. He weighted his options, whether to get out of the house at this moment or to stay around until he could get healthy enough to travel away. The man seemed to not mind him eating as much as he wanted to, so perhaps money wasn’t a problem of his unlike at Antonio’s house. If needed, he could possibly get mineral water and vitamins if it comes to that in the end. A wise choice would be to stay and get his health back in check before he rushed out into the winter streets not knowing which way to go. But did he have time for that…? When will the government start searching for all the missing runaway mutants? It couldn’t be too far off in the future, right…? But if he’d keep the man convinced he was a lost little kitten…
Then what would he have to worry for? Lovino sat down after he finished stuffing his stomach and began to groom himself of the scent, trying to keep himself free of the stench he wasn’t used to yet. Candles, perhaps? It just didn’t smell the same in here as it did with the underground… To be honest it irritated his nose a bit, but it was only going to be a temporary stay anyway. A temporary stay needed for survival. It wasn’t like this man was going to turn in a random cat claiming it was a mutant… Right?
